I have been studying Tai Chi for 20 years.
Although there are many reasons for developing a Tai Chi practice, including health, meditation, and martial arts;
genreally speaking, the most important is one of changing your state of consciousness. No matter what state of consciousness you are in when you begin your practice, you move up the ladder of consciousness by the time you finish. Tai Chi is a practice that will help you become more Present.
Although it is not necessary to learn Tai Chi to attain this state of consciousness, I have found that it an enjoyable practice to become deeply “rooted in the body”. And experience the state of Presence as defined by the spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle in The Power of Now.
“To stay present in everday life, it helps to be deeply rooted within yourself; otherwise, the mind, which has incredible momentum, will drag you along like a wild river.It means to inhabit your body fully. To always have some of your attention in the inner energy fild of your body. To feel the body from within, so to speak. Body awareness keeps you present. It anchors you in the Now.”
